The Stureplan shootings 1994. At the popular retaurant and nightclub Sturecompagniet at Stureplan in the very center of Stockholm on Dec 4, 1994, one guard and 4 guests are killed by people who have been denied entry earlier that evening. A further 20 people are wounded.
Military automatic rifles are used in the shootings.

There is a big popular reaction to the escalating violence in the Swedish society and the increased availability of advanced handguns.

Strong publicity arises around the fact that one of the guns used at the Stureplan Shootings is a stolen AG-3 from the Norwegian defense forces.

Two friends, one of them an inventor, speaks over the phone and conclude:

”We have to find a way to make stolen firearms impossible to use!”
